He sought a new future in the land that was enjoying unprecedented prosperity generated by the Industrial Revolution. Mr Comitti established his workshops in London as a maker of barometers and related instruments and in a very short time his beautiful products were gracing the homes of discerning customers. It was during the late Victorian period that the company diversified into clockmaking. Many of the styles made in these early days continue to be available today. They are recognised as English classics and sought after as valuable antiques. Comitti remains a family run business. Today, the company is run by the grandsons of George Barker who married Louisa Comitti and joined the business in the 1890s. The Managing Director, Simon Barker, believes that the longevity of the business and its continued success is a tribute to the policy of carefully blending age-old craft skills with the most up to date technology, and the family nature of the company. "From generation to generation, we have looked to develop our skills and design a collection of clocks and barometers that will satisfy the aspirations and needs of our customers. We take great pride in our reputation for integrity, quality and service; indeed, we regard it as an imperative for our continued success in the next millennium." |
